New Warning for Atomoxetine

Atomoxetine

The long-term use of generic atomoxetine (Strattera Drug, Eli Lilly), a drug for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), may cause severe liver damage, the FDA warns. The drug’s labeling is being updated to include the warning after two reports about severe liver injury in a teenager and an adult (both patients recovered).

The labeling now states that the injury may progress to liver failure, resulting in death or the need for a transplant in a small percentage of patients.
