Singulair(R) Is also Indicated For Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
It has been proven that taking Singulair tablets once a day help relieve a variety of indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms for up to 24 hours.
Gailen Marshall Jr., M.D., Ph.D., director of the Division of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, considers allergic rhinitis to be one of the most common allergic conditions in 50 million people in the United States. According to the data perennial, or year round, allergic rhinitis are generally stimulated by such indoor allergens as pet dander, dust or mold.
It is known today that Singulair (Montelukast) drug has been ratified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This kind of asthma and allergies medications is indicated for the relief of symptoms of perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR), or indoor allergies, in adult patients and children from six months and older.
Actually Montelukast 10 mg was confirmed in 2003 for the treatment of the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitus (SAR). There took place studies of the efficacy of Generic Singulair for treatment of PAR and SAR. In these clinical trials two randomized, double-blind groups were included. The participants were age 15 to 82 years with PAR and SAR. The results were the following:
As for PAR Singulair medication demonstrated effectiveness in improving daytime nasal symptoms including runny nose, nasal congestion and sneezing. As for SAR Montelukast 10 mg was effective in improving daytime nasal symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, nasal itching and sneezing.
SINGULAIR drug was generally well tolerated by both children and adults. These studies revealed common side effects included ear infection, headache, sore throat and upper respiratory infection.
In the same studies for asthma, the side effects were usually mild and generally did not effect patients to stop asthma symptom treatment.
However, Singulair medication should not be used for the fast relief of acute asthma attacks or used alone to treat and manage asthma. Patients should have control over their asthma and they need to consult their health care provider. Besides they must remember to take Montelukast tablets daily as prescribed even when they have no symptoms. The use of SINGULAIR for asthma may not eliminate the need for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Patients with known aspirin sensitivity should continue avoidance of aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents while taking asthma and allergy relief products.
In Mr. Marshall’s opinion, SINGULAIR provides effective option to help for the relief of symptoms of perennial allergic rhinitis.
For treatment of symptoms of allergic rhinitis, SINGULAIR allergy pills is available in tablet form for adults (10 mg), as a cherry-chewable tablet (4 or 5 mg) for children aged two to 14 years and in oral granules (4 mg) for children six months to five years.
