First Oral Rosacea Therapy
Oracea (doxycycline generic, CollaGenex) has been approved for the treatment of inflammatory lesions in adults with rosacea, a dermatological condition. This is the first FDA-approved, orally administered, systemically delivered drug to treat rosacea.
This 40-mg capsule offers the convenience of once-a-day administration and contains a combination of immediate-release and delayed-release beads. Rosacea primarily affects the face; it is characterized by the appearance of papules and pustules, erythema, and telangiectasia (spider veins). If allowed to progress to a moderate-to-severe condition, rosacea can cause itching, pain, and thickening of the skin.
