Effect of CORLUX In Risperdal Treatment
New data received by Corcept Therapeutics (NASDAQ: CORT) demonstrated that adding CORLUX to Risperdal (Risperidone) treatment mitigates the weight gain associated with Risperdal drug.
Generic Risperdal is a well-known kind of schizophrenia medication, that is effective for the treatment of schizophrenia disease and bipolar disorder.
CORLUX, Corcept’s late-stage GRII receptor antagonist, was investigated in a four-week randomized double-blind controlled study of 75 lean, healthy men (body mass index of 23 or less). The patients were randomized to receive Risperdal plus placebo, Risperdal plus CORLUX or CORLUX plus placebo. All the daily figures of weights were recorded.
The study gave positive results. It was found out that taking CORLUX with Risperdal antipsychotic medication leads to a significant reduction in weight gain. Additional metabolic parameters, including fasting insulin, triglycerides and abdominal fat, are being analyzed. Consistent with prior studies, CORLUX appeared to be well tolerated.
The announced data approved results previously reported from similar clinical trials of CORLUX which showed statistically significant reduction of Zyprexa (Olanzapine) associated weight gain.
Dr. Robert L. Roe, M.D., President of Corcept was pleased to perform the results of CORLUX investigation in taking Zyprexa drug. He is confident that this study shows the benefits of GRII antagonists and makes them be applicable to the broad class of antipsychotic drugs. However, the use of GRII antagonists to prevent weight gain associated with the use of many antipsychotic drugs could supply a great number of people with health and quality of life benefits.
