Nonprescription Use Of Zyrtec (Cetirizine)
Andrea Leonard-Segal, M.D., director, Division of Nonprescription Clinical Evaluation in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research suggests that Zyrtec medication provides an additional option for children and adults in treating allergies. She advises consumers and caregivers to read thoroughly and follow all directions in case of nonprescription use.
The matter is that recently the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has ratified tablet, chewable tablet, and syrup s of Zyrtec (cetirizine hydrochloride) drug for nonprescription use.
The nonprescription drug is approved for the temporary relief of symptoms due to hay fever or other respiratory allergies (sneezing; runny nose; watery eyes, itchy; itchy throat or nose).
Cetirizine allergy tablets and chewable tablets are effective for adults and children of 6 years and older to treat the symptoms of hay fever and other respiratory allergies, and to relieve the itching caused by hives.
The other formulation of Zyrtec medication, the syrup, is indicated for healing of the symptoms of hay fever and other respiratory allergies in adults and children 2 years of age and older and to relieve the itching caused by hives in adults and children 6 years of age and older.
Among common side effects of generic Cetirizine may be drowsiness, fatigue and dry mouth.

I really like Zyrtec for my allergies. It’s nice to have it available over the counter, although I guess it also puts some of the burden of paying for medication on the person rather than on their insurance. Sill, it’s great stuff. Thanks for the post!
