A specialty pharmaceutical company named Eurand investigated new formulation of allergy relief products to have superior organoleptic properties in terms of taste and texture. This product, AdvaTab(R), is a formulation of a leading prescription antihistamine generic Cetirizine. According to the words of specialists the AdvaTab technology produces tablets that disintegrate quickly in the mouth.
Today a major milestone in the development program is achieved. And Eurand plans to finish the development program by end of 2006 after what the product will be available for everyone.
Generic Zyrtec (Cetirizine) is prescribed for the relief of indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms. The pharmacokinetic study to compare the formulations of Zyrtec medication was conducted among 16 healthy volunteers. The aim of the study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetic profile and organoleptic (sensory) properties of AdvaTab Cetirizine 10mg compared with those of Zyrtec 10mg immediate release tablets and Zyrtec (10mg) chewable tablets under fed conditions. AdvaTab Cetirizine medication was found out to be bioequivalent to both immediate release and chewable immediate release tablets in all conditions tested.
Gearoid Faherty, Eurand’s CEO made a conclusion that AdvaTab Zyrtec drug is an important additional dosing option for patients. AdvaTab Cetirizine drug is considered to be a taste-masked, stabilized formulation that utilizes Eurand’s proprietary Microcaps tastemasking and AdvaTab orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) technologies.
